Bogged down by gadgets, cords, and gizmos? Ditto. If only more electronics designers had minds like Knut Karlsen, creative inventor of the SunCat Solar Battery prototype.

After lounging in a sunny corner for two weeks or so, the SunCat will bring power to a battery operated appliance near you. No charger, no fuss, no worries.

It’s like a breath of fresh air, really. Using the simple logic of the solar charged calculator the SunCat promises to:

  • Eliminate the need for charger production
  • Simplify the use of rechargeable batteries, ideally encouraging their more widespread use over chem-laden disposable batteries
  • Relieve the guilty consciences of battery users who recharge using a dirty grid like me. Good thing for green power!

Just imagine what else this concept could be applied to!

Sure, the prototype lacks in efficiency and batteries generally don’t like heat, but the concept deserves praise. Design improvements can always be made in the same way that solar technology itself evolves.

Have a suggestion to share? Get in touch with Knut himself. The sooner these solar batteries are available for use, the better.
