Raisingspaces.com is a growing online community that encourages and supports Canadians to build green and renovate green at home. We offer information on green building and related products, opportunities to share and dialogue with others, as well as resources to connect with professionals in the field.

Raisingspaces.com is about Canadians helping their neighbours across the country to make healthier choices for their families and for the environment by researching the impacts of current building and renovation practices and exploring greener alternatives.

Raisingspaces.com is accepting submissions on a wide variety of topics to help Canadians to make greener choices. We invite you to submit a one-page query describing the seasonally-appropriate piece you would like to cover.

Submissions are accepted from:

· Professionals in the industry with their given specialization

· Home-owners offering real-world experience with natural and green building products and techniques

· Freelance writers committed to accurate and well-researched coverage of their topic

Although we encourage submissions from green building companies, greenwash will not be tolerated. All pieces must touch on pros and cons in a balanced manner.

Raisingspaces.com is a community-enriched resource for home owners with varying levels of environmental literacy and building know-how. The guideline here is to ‘leave no one behind’ while offering current, cutting edge, and practical content. Language should be accessible, and terms/acronyms defined and attached at the end of the piece. The tone should offer a casual, exciting, and optimistic flavour.

We welcome submissions in the following categories on an ongoing basis:

Green Product Feature 100-2500 words

Green Building Professional Feature 200-400 words

Green Building Resource Review 200-400 words

Green Home Feature 2500-4500 words

Green Renovation Feature 1500-3000 words

Project How-to 200-800 words

Other topics such as environmental impacts of residential construction, renewable energies, energy conservation, financial incentives and rebates, finishes and indoor air quality, new choices in flooring, etc.

When applicable, articles should include additional resources useful to Canadian readers. Where Canadian resources are unavailable, others may be substituted.

Drafts should be sent in Microsoft Word format only in Times New Roman font, with no additional formatting. Images and diagrams should be included where possible to illustrate concepts.

Send images separately as jpgs and insert filenames, captions, and printing permission and sources within the text where the image should appear.

Compensation

At this time, Raisingspaces.com does not offer financial compensation for external submissions. However, Green Building Professionals may earn a complimentary inclusion in the Green Professionals Directory by submitting one piece annually.

Submit one-page queries to info@raisingspaces.com four months in advance of the ideal publication date. Please include a description of the story idea, a summary of your background and qualifications, a list of sources you plan to consult, and some insight into your style and approach.
