MCNZH - from the street (the house faces north)
This is the current color scheme/look of the Mill Creek NetZero Home (MCNZH). The supports for the porch roof will be made of recycled gluelam beams. And of course, we’ll have bicycle parking out front. Eco-travellers are welcome here.

MCNZH - Side View (from the East)
There will be a wheelchair ramp to the side door for my mom.

MCNZH - From the south-facing back yard.
And, from the back. There are outside stairs to the “Craft Room”, as it will be considered until Edmonton finally allows basement suites in our neighborhood (city council should pass the bylaw in December of 2008).
You can also see the movable solar awnings, massive south windows, and fixed solar hot water collectors (the black ones at the top).
The roof will be made of steel, due to the extreme durability of the material. Also, we want to collect water from the roof for the garden, and the water won’t have petroleum residue in it like it would coming off of an asphalt roof.
I can’t wait to see the finished product!

Same here! By the way, I just love the solar awning idea. If you need to shade an area, don’t just block the sun, harness it! Fabulous work, Conrad.
