Mill Creek Net Zero Home When we moved into our newly purchased 1954 raised bungalow in Edmonton seven years ago, I was determined to make it an efficient home. After major renovations, it earned a rating of 71 by an Energuide for Homes, roughly that of “a typical new house”. Then I realized that typical new houses are very poorly built, and that our upgraded home still consumes a vast amount of energy. In the summer of 2005, the 92-year old house two doors down from us came up for sale. We bought it, and the Mill Creek NetZero Home project was born. |

Shire Strawbale Home - The Shire Strawbale Home was started late in the summer of 2007 on a hectare of family land on the Shire Lane in Emyvale, PEI. It is a hybrid in-fill bale home incorporating passive solar, energy efficient design and a small footprint. Almost entirely built by ourselves (aside from plumbing and wiring) it has been a life altering experience, stressful, overwhelming and incredibly fulfilling all at once. |
